Cookie policy
This page explains which cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) may be used on Error Decoder, what they do and how you can control them. It complements our privacy policy.
Your settings
You can review or change your choices at any time:
The same link is in the footer of every page. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it reopens the consent message so you can accept or reject advertising cookies, or choose purposes and vendors individually. In US states with privacy laws it gives access to the "Do not sell or share my personal information" option. If the button does nothing, the consent message is not active for your region, or advertising is not currently enabled on the site.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website or a third party stores in your browser. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps small amounts of data on your device. Both can be "strictly necessary" (needed for something you asked for) or optional (for example used for advertising). Optional cookies require your consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland.
Cookies used by Error Decoder
1. Strictly necessary
Error Decoder does not set its own cookies to make the site work. There is no login and no shopping cart. Your hosting provider's infrastructure may use short-lived technical cookies for security or load balancing; these are strictly necessary and contain no profile information.
2. Preferences (local storage)
If the site offers display preferences, such as a light or dark theme, your choice may be saved in your browser's local storage on your device. It is never sent to us and is not used for tracking. You can delete it by clearing site data in your browser.
3. Consent management
When the consent message is active, Google's consent management platform stores your choices in a cookie (for example FCCDCF or FCNEC) so that you are not asked on every page. These cookies record your decision and are necessary to respect it.
4. Advertising (Google)
When advertising is enabled, Google AdSense and, depending on your choices, Google's certified advertising partners may set or read cookies and similar identifiers. Typical examples are __gads, __gpi and __eoi on this domain and IDE on doubleclick.net. They are used to:
- show ads and limit how often you see the same ad;
- measure ad performance and produce aggregated reports;
- detect and prevent fraud and invalid clicks;
- where you have agreed, personalise ads based on your activity on this and other websites.
Google sets the names and retention periods of these cookies, and they can change. Retention typically ranges from a few months to about two years. For current details, see Google's list of advertising cookies and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Consent Mode is set to "denied" for advertising storage and personalisation until you make a choice. If you reject, Google may still serve limited or non-personalised ads, which do not use cookies for personalisation.
5. Analytics
Error Decoder does not currently use analytics cookies. If that changes, this page will be updated first, and analytics will only run with your consent where the law requires it.
Other ways to control cookies
- Google Ads Settings: turn off personalised ads from Google at adssettings.google.com.
- Industry opt-outs: www.aboutads.info (US) and www.youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
- Your browser: every major browser lets you block third-party cookies, delete existing cookies and clear site data. Blocking all cookies may stop some sites from working, but Error Decoder remains fully usable.
- Global Privacy Control: some browsers and extensions can send an opt-out signal that is honoured where supported.
Changes
We will update this page if we add, remove or change any cookie-using service. The date below shows the latest revision.
