P0341
Severity medium
Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
Also searched as: P0341 code, camshaft position sensor range performance
What it means
P0341 means the camshaft position sensor signal does not match what the engine computer expects relative to the crankshaft signal. It can cause hard starting, rough running or stalling, and sometimes indicates a timing belt or chain problem.
Applies to: OBD-II vehicles 1996+ (US), EOBD vehicles (EU petrol 2001+)
How to fix P0341
- Check wiring and the connector at the camshaft sensor for damage or oil intrusion
- Inspect the sensor and replace it if its signal is erratic
- Make sure the battery and charging system are healthy; low voltage during cranking can trigger the code
- Check for a stretched timing chain or a timing belt that jumped a tooth, especially if correlation codes appear too
- Inspect the cam reluctor for damage
- Clear the code and confirm the repair with a test drive
Why it happens
The cam signal is noisy, intermittent or out of sync because of a failing sensor, wiring issues, or mechanical timing problems.
FAQ
Can P0341 be caused by the timing belt?
Yes. If the belt or chain has jumped or stretched, the cam and crank signals no longer line up.
